Vintage wall map, custom cut MDF, acrylic paint on canvas

66 x 66cm

SOLD

A found vintage wall map and acrylic painted wood on canvas with a three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.

This mid-century find was salvaged from a flea market and would have originally served in a school. It has been divided into concentric circles and then raised. Laser-cut MDF rings dissect the image and have been painted in a similar shade of pink as some of the counties on the map.

Although the colours are linked, there is still a strong sense of contrast between the organic lines and shapes in the map and the sharp and bold nature of the wooden rings. Radiating out from the centre, these rings also create a sense of movement for the viewer.
