Vintage board game box, painted wood on canvas

42 x 56cm

A vintage board game box and acrylic painted wood on canvas with a three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.

Featuring a common British board game from the 1950’s, this box has been deconstructed and dissected with strips of painted wood that match the colours of the hand-drawn playing pieces.

The bold and vibrant nature of the wooden strips are intended to provide a contemporary intervention in contrast to the worn condition of the cardboard box. They also create a strong sense of movement.

This artwork is part of an abstract series featuring deconstructed board game boxes with intervening strips of wood.
