Vintage board game cards, acrylic crystals on canvas
45 x 67cm
A collection of original, vintage board game cards and acrylic crystals arranged on painted canvas with a three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.
These cards, which have been arranged in a grid-like formation, are from a mid-century, British board game discovered at a South London flea market. After spinning a dial which would stop on a random letter of the alphabet, players at the time would think of an appropriate word to fit the subject category printed on the card.
The addition of Swarovski crystals in each card’s corner provides a contemporary component which shimmers in the light when moving around the artwork and the raised element casts soft shadows below.
The individual history of this board game is evident in the marks, tears and worn edges of the materials.
