Vintage board game cards on canvas

50 x 75cm

A collection of original, vintage board game cards and painted wood arranged on canvas with a cut three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.

These railway station cards have all been individually sourced from British Monopoly sets ranging from the 1930’s through to the early 1960’s. They have been organised into a geometric formation with raised circles and wooden strips that echo the shape of the London Underground logo.

Evoking a strong sense of nostalgia, this work presents parts of a board game that has widespread popularity and appeal, spanning many decades. The variations in tone between the cards as well as the evident marks and general wear indicate the individual history and journey of each item.
