The Practical Motorist
Vintage magazine covers, painted wood on canvas
103 x 103cm
A collection of vintage, deconstructed magazine covers arranged on canvas and separated with painted wooden strips. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Using issues of The Practical Motorist magazine from the 1950’s, segments have been cut from the front covers and laid out to form a vibrant, geometric pattern. The use of an overall circular shape references essential components of a car such as the wheels, pistons and steering wheel.
The colours and rearranged images form a nostalgic snapshot of mid-century motoring.
