To The Little Red School House
Vintage postcards on canvas
58 x 78cm
A collection of original, vintage U.S. postcards arranged on painted canvas with a cut three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.
Produced in the 1930’s and 40’s, these postcards were initially discovered at a New York flea market whilst the repeats have been collected from various other sources.
This arrangement forms a narrative of a journey through natural settings to the red school house featured prominently in the second column. Curved roads in the outer columns brings the eye of the viewer towards the central images.
Placed in a geometric pattern, these postcards include sunken rectangular centres leaving behind raised frames which mirror the frame of the artwork itself.
