Vintage booklet covers, acrylic crystals on canvas
59 x 74cm
A collection of original, vintage booklet covers and acrylic crystals arranged on painted canvas with a cut three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.
The images are sourced from booklet covers produced in the 1960’s by the Brooke Bond Tea Company. Small cards featuring portraits of a variety of birds would be collected one by one from boxes of tea and then glued inside the booklet until the set was complete.
The individual history of each item is evident in the marks, creases and worn edges of the paper while the introduction of acrylic crystals aims to give the repeated images a contemporary feel.
The graduated arrangement is intended to emphasise the direction of the falcons as they apparently swoop downwards.
