COMMISSION

A collection of original, vintage collecting cards arranged on painted canvas with a three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a dark blue, wooden frame.

Featuring hand drawn images of space exploration, these cards were produced by the Brooke Bond Tea Company in the early 1970’s and have been gathered from a variety of sources. Brought together, they create a repetitious pattern sectioned into quadrants by wooden strips. Some cards are raised whilst others are adhered flat to the canvas.

The individual history of each card is evident in the marks, creases or worn edges and the general aesthetic of the illustrations is typical of the era.
