Vintage playing cards, acrylic crystals & painted wood on canvas
56 x 84cm
A set of vintage playing cards, painted wood and acrylic crystals arranged on painted canvas with a cut three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.
This deck of playing cards was discovered at a car boot sale in South London. The cards have been laid in a grid-like formation, cut in half and then raised from the background. Each card has multiple Swarovski crystals placed within the floral design and alternates in colour between light blue and black.
The arrangement takes the form of a collection of butterflies that have come together in a tight formation. The centrally placed painted strip of wood represents the body of the butterfly and the cards themselves act as the wings.
This piece is part of a series of works featuring vintage playing cards.
