Vintage magazine covers, acrylic crystals on canvas

76 x 70cm

A collection of original, vintage magazine covers and acrylic crystals arranged on painted canvas with a cut three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame.

Instantly recognisable and evoking a sense of nostalgia for the era, these iconic magazine covers are from 1956 and have been arranged in a simple, geometric formation.

The entire twelve issues for that year have been utilised: January through to June provide the background images while July through to December contribute the repeated and raised decorative borders.

The addition of Swarovski crystals in various sizes provide a contemporary component which shimmers in the light when moving around the artwork.

The individual history of each cover is evident in the marks, tears and worn edges of the paper.
